Patient Safety Leadership Walkarounds

Patient Safety Leadership Walkarounds (PSLWA) have been identified in the literature as a powerful tool to develop patient safety culture by connecting senior leaders and front line staff in open dialogues about patient safety. (Leonard et al, 2004 ) Many organizations report that this strategy promotes teamwork, facilitates communication and offers an opportunity for constructive dialogue on collective
approaches to improve patient, and in some cases, client safety.

We understand that more and more of our members are conducting these walkarounds with great success, while others are just beginning to think about doing them. Where ever you are in this journey, we hope you find the resources that we have pulled together for you below, from our most recent Patient Safety Leadership Walkarounds Open House at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre on May 27, 2008.
