QHN Welcomes Release of HSMR Results for Ontario Acute Care Hospitals
TORONTO, Nov. 29 –Today, the Quality Healthcare Network (QHN) welcomed a new report by the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) that provides Hospital Standardized Mortality Ratio (HSMR) trend results for Canadian acute care hospitals.
"As a benefit of membership, we will be working with our Quality Healthcare Network members in the upcoming weeks to support their quality improvement initiatives, which we believe will go a long way in lowering HSMR rates," said Cynthia Majewski, Executive Director of the QHN. "Using HSMR data to examine results over time, hospitals will be able to identify areas for improvement and accelerate the quality of care their patients receive. At the network we believe we are more effective if we work together and learn from one another, then if we go it alone."
Safer Healthcare Now! (SHN) is one of the methodologies that hospitals can use to improve patient safety. QHN, a trusted source to elevate system improvement performance through collaborative and innovative means, is the secretariat for SHN in Ontario.
The CIHI report is available electronically from the CIHI website at www.cihi.ca. For more information on QHN and SHN quality improvement learning events please refer to our website at www.qhn.ca.

About the Quality Healthcare
Network:
The Quality Healthcare Network (QHN) is a non-profit organization
dedicated to fostering the development and adoption of best practices
by its members through education and shared improvement projects. Established
in 1992 as the CQI Network, the network grew into the Quality
Healthcare Network in 2003, a member-based organization, which now exceeds
over 70 healthcare organizations that share the courage to move beyond
status quo, inspired towards excellence in care and service. In 2005,
the network became the Ontario lead of the Safer Healthcare Now!
campaign, an ambitious pan-Canadian effort aimed at reducing
the number of injuries and deaths related to adverse events, such as
infections and medication incidents. For more information about QHN,
