Ministry announces public reporting on patient safety indicators

On May 28, 2008, the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care announced the list of patient safety indicators that hospitals will be required to publicly report on, as well as the dates in which reporting will begin. To download Ministry press release click here.

The Quality Healthcare Network, the lead organization supporting Safer Healthcare Now! in Ontario continues to support healthcare organizations in their efforts to meet the provincial reporting requirements for the prevention of central line infections (CLI), prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) and prevention of surgical site infections (SSI).

Hospitals will be required to publicly report rates of CLI, VAP, and SSI by April 30, 2009.

To support you in this campaign, QHN is holding a workshop for hospitals preparing to meet the provincial reporting requirements for CLI, VAP and SSI on June 17, 2008 from 7:45 am – 4:15 pm at the Sandman Signature Hotel, Toronto Airport. Space is limited, so please register now. To download the workshop brochure and registration form, click here or go to: http://www.qhn.ca/events/EatingtheElephantbrochure.pdf

About the Quality Healthcare Network:The Quality Healthcare Network (QHN) is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering the development and adoption of best practices by its members through education and shared improvement projects. Established in 1992 as the CQI Network, the network grew into the  Quality Healthcare Network in 2003, a member-based organization, which now exceeds over 70 healthcare organizations that share the courage to move beyond status quo, inspired towards excellence in care and service. In 2005, the network became the Ontario lead of the Safer Healthcare Now! campaign, an ambitious pan-Canadian effort aimed at reducing the number of injuries and deaths related to adverse events, such as infections and medication incidents.
