“The Region of Peel is constantly seeking opportunities to educate its staff in new developments and adopt leading practices, especially related to quality issues so I suspect that is why we became members.
QHN membership has a lot to offer the long term care sector. For example, we are currently trying to create a CQI Program for The Region of Peel’s five long term care homes and we have sought advice from QHN on many of its tools, educational resources, information on qualifications for hiring those with quality backgrounds and we've sent staff to the Rapid Cycle Improvement workshop.
We do not have a Quality Coordinator/ Manager and we require assistance in the development of a Quality Program for our five homes. We need this program to be user friendly so that all staff will actively participate in it. We hope that membership in QHN will support us in this endeavor.
Many of the QHN led initiatives, like Safer Healthcare Now! in Ontario have focused on other health care sectors first, but I know that long term care initiatives will be coming to the forefront soon and we look forward to benefiting from them and receiving more information that targets our sector.
