About the Ontario Node of
Safer Healthcare Now!
In 2005, the Ontario Node of the Safer Healthcare Now! campaign
received startup funding from the Canadian Patient Safety Institute
(CPSI), Quality Healthcare Network (QHN), Healthcare Insurance Reciprocal
of Canada (HIROC), Headwaters Health Care Centre, Niagara Health
System, Toronto East General Hospital and Trillium Health Centre.
The Quality Healthcare Network continues to act as the secretariat
to the Ontario leg of this important patient safety initiative,
and continues to provide ongoing funding.
Specific projects have required additional support, such as the
Ontario Trailblazer initiative which was sponsored by the Ontario
Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOH LTC) and regional patient
safety workshops scheduled for Spring 2007 which have been made
possible by the generous support of Healthcare Insurance Reciprocal
of Canada (HIROC).
Our Mission
Our mission is to accelerate the Safer Healthcare Now! campaign
in Ontario.
We offer Ontario healthcare organizations the opportunity to participate
in a campaign dedicated to improving patient safety, through the
implementation of six targeted interventions in patient care.
Deploy Rapid Response Teams
Deliver Reliable, Evidence-Based Care for Acute Myocardial Infarction
Prevent Adverse Drug Events (ADEs)
Prevent Central Line Infections
Prevent Surgical Site Infections
Prevent Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia
Although these six interventions take place in the
hospital setting, the campaign is embarking on new best practice
interventions to be implemented in the community.
